Power & Renewables - Senior Research Analyst

IHS Markit is looking for a senior analyst to join our North American Power & Renewables research team.  The Senior Research Analyst will work alongside a broad range of energy industry experts analyzing the evolving policy, technology and competitive landscape of the North America power sector. The position provides an opportunity for a successful candidate to gain a strong understanding of wholesale power markets and to help clients navigate the evolving industry landscape,

A Senior Research Analyst functions as a core member of the North American Power & Renewables team providing quantitative research on power market trends, contributing to written reports, assisting with consulting projects, and supporting IHS Markit events. 

An ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and 3 to 5 years of energy industry experience. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collect data, maintain models, and perform analyses related to wholesale power markets including assessing the economic competitiveness of various power sector supply resources; tracking power market design evolution; and maintaining supply and demand fundamentals
  • Lead or contribute to regular reports including power and renewable forecasts, market updates, and competitor analyses. 
  • Carry out topical research to help clients understand drivers, trends, competitive landscape, and opportunities
  • Deliver insights through written reports, presentations, and client interactions
  • Participate in consulting project development and delivery
  • Collaborate with energy researchers on broader reports and studies  

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics or industry-related field required. Graduate degree with quantitative experience preferred.

Required Experience:

At least 3 years of power experience typically acquired by working in industry, government, research, or consulting.

Other Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in using structured methods and data analysis to derive research insights and messages.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills to enable communication and collaboration with colleagues and clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and to navigate in a matrix organization.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
