The Senior Research Analyst will produce forward-looking research and analysis on the above-ground risk environment in select Asia Pacific states, with an in-depth focus on the impact for upstream oil and gas investors. This will involve written analysis, thematic research, client work and presentations, as well as consulting projects.


The analyst will monitor and assess the impacts of key developments affecting the upstream oil and gas investment environment and risks and opportunities therein in select Southeast Asian states, with an emphasis on forward-looking analysis. The analyst will serve as the point person for insight on the upstream investment environment in these states.


The majority of the analyst’s time will be dedicated to conducting research and analysis, writing insightful assessments of key developments, and engaging clients on these issues. The analyst will maintain country-level upstream risk assessments and profiles, as well as contribute coverage of relevant national oil companies. The analyst will also contribute to broader global and thematic reports on a regular basis. The analyst will also be responsible for engaging existing and potential clients to support regional content delivery and business development efforts. The analyst will be expected to contribute to consulting projects as required, collaborate with other regional oil and gas teams, maintain contacts within the region, participate in internal/external events, and contribute to product enhancement efforts. Additional related duties may be added as appropriate to support the team.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (politics, regional studies, relevant language, law or economics).
  • Graduate degree preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of directly relevant experience, traditionally acquired by working in industry, government, or consulting.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education.

Other skills:

  • Significant regional expertise and understanding of the Asia Pacific political economy.
  • Familiarity with key actors across the oil and gas industry and understanding of main factors of above-ground investment risk.
  • Experience with legal and regulatory analysis a plus.
  • Strong demonstrable research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience with client interaction; strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent demonstrable written communication skills in English in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with MS applications required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Requires a keen attention to detail, highly effective organization and prioritization skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Must be flexible, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with co-workers of different levels of experience and background.
  • Relevant regional language skills a plus.
