Do you enjoy monitoring, evaluating, and explaining macroeconomic and financial sector developments while learning about new countries? We are seeking an Economist to join IHS Markit's Banking Risk Team, part of the Economics and Country Risk Division.


  • Become the in-house expert for select Middle East and Africa banking sectors, assessing overall levels of risk and identifying emerging areas of risk and opportunities

  • Independently research emerging and frontier market banking sectors in the Middle East and Africa by reviewing local news sources, reading reports, and analyzing data.

  • Communicate key findings internally and externally to customers through high-quality forward-looking written analysis, statistical analysis, and in-person presentations or webinars as required.

  • Produce regular quantitative forecasts of key banking sector variables

  • Regularly review the latest banking crisis research to identify new methods and indicators for analyzing financial sector risk

  • Collaborate and work effectively with colleagues in the wider Economics and Country Risk group to brief clients and produce cross-team special reports

Your team

You will be working on the Banking Risk Team as part of a broader international team of dynamic, collaborative, and intellectually driven colleagues who are passionate about financial sector risk.

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Macroeconomics or closely related field with rigorous economics coursework

  • Fluency reading, writing, and speaking in English to a business audience is required; knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

  • Strong data analysis skills using excel is required; knowledge of statistical programs like EViews is desirable.

  • Prior experience analyzing historical financial crises; the role, structure, and operations of banking sectors' and macroeconomic theory either at university or professionally is preferable
