Department overview:

As a market leader in the provision of illiquid portfolio pricing valuation services, our Portfolio Equity professionals assist clients in the post-trade valuation of alternative investments, specifically for debt and equity positions for which there are no "active market" quotations available.

Position summary:

The Private Equity Business Development role will be responsible for working with the NA Sales team, running trial valuations for prospective clients and managing valuation methodology review engagements with clients in the alternative investment community including private equity and hedge funds, banks, direct lenders, institutional investors and fund administrators.

Private equity is a growing segment for IHS Markit. We are looking for people who understand the players and their needs, can spot business opportunities, and can work effectively with Sales to ensure that we meet our challenging revenue targets. You will be able to respond to prospect queries, and devise approaches which allow us to deliver valuations that meet client needs, both in time and quality.

Activities will include helping identifying and structuring methodology definitions and review opportunities with existing clients, managing execution of engagements, and presentation of findings to clients, in connection with provision of customized valuation services or analysis of valuation methodologies and valuation process improvement opportunities. Additional activities will include the identification of common review activities, documenting the process steps and deliverables, and the development and delivery of training materials for internal stakeholders.

Business Development duties include:

  • Working with management and Sales to build and maintain client relationships
  • Taking ownership for a local budget
  • Understanding the market and being able to identify opportunities for product enhancement or delivery
  • Analysing client requirements and delivering detailed service specifications to prospective clients for valuation and review services
  • Scheduling and managing valuation trials with prospective clients, analysing and reporting results to clients and handling client queries arising from trials
  • Creating documents and other materials to support review activities
  • Attending relevant industry events to promote valuation and advisory services, and broaden knowledge and experience within the alternative asset industry

Education and experience:

  • Solid experience of working on valuation topics and other financial models
  • Experience in the alternative asset industry as either a participant or a service provider
  • Experience of defining and managing delivery of advisory services to financial services clients
  • Experience of creating product promotion materials, articles and public speaking
  • Experience in fast paced environment
  • Commercial awareness
  • Experience of building and maintaining client relationships
  • Experience of structuring and delivering advisory services to financial services clients
  • Experience of costing advisory engagements and tracking costs during service delivery
