The IHS Markit Index business provides industry leading indices to the sell side, buy side and ETF providers. Current indices span various asset classes including bonds, loans, credit, equity and structured products. IHS Markit is one of the largest providers of fixed income indices for ETFs internationally, with the largest and most widely traded corporate credit ETFs globally referencing our indices. Currently there is over $130 billion in ETF AUM referencing IHS Markit’s iBoxx bond indices. In addition, over $5 trillion in OTC derivative notional is currently linked to IHS Markit’s tradable indices such as CDX and iTraxx, with approximately $25 trillion of derivative notional traded in 2018.

The Indices Business Development team works in conjunction with the Product Management, Sales and Account Management groups to manage relationships with current and potential clients, drive new client acquisition and achieve client retention through the renewal process. The candidate will be based in IHS Markit’s New York office, responsible for US client-facing activities covering all aspects of business development across the sell side and buy side, with a specific focus on asset managers, ETF providers and asset servicers. The candidate will support Product Management and Sales with existing and new customer engagement, MIS & reporting, new business opportunities, contract renewals, roll-out of new Indices and market positioning of Indices and Index Services. The candidate will be part of a team that has responsibility for meeting revenue and new business targets.


Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Regular analysis of new business pipeline and sales opportunity to help drive product roadmap and revenues
  • Maintain and development key client and partner relationships
  • Build new client relationships to drive adoption of IHS Markit Fixed Income Indices – with a specific focus on asset managers and ETF providers
  • Ensure new and existing clients are aware of all IHS Markit’s proprietary indices and Index Administration/Calculation capabilities to drive adoption
  • Work closely with sales on new index sales campaigns and lead generation
  • Liaise with sales to close new business
  • Manage renewals by actively working with sales and product
  • Coordinate with product and R&D on new customer requirements and ensure close communication with customers on new product development
  • Collaborate with marketing to ensure documentation and marketing collateral is up to date and assist with client events


Business Competencies:

  • University degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of indices, ETFs and fixed income markets
  • Existing industry and client relationship networks, particularly with buy side customers and ETF issuers
  • Capability to develop in depth understanding of IHS Markit’s index products and services
  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience working for an index or ETF Provider in a commercial / sales role
  • Experience with contracts, commercials and fee proposals
  • Willingness to travel
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Able to demonstrate interest in staying abreast of industry and regulatory developments

  • Displays a resilient and adaptable style, track record of remaining calm in demanding circumstances, adjusting comfortably to changing conditions / priorities

  • Works collaboratively with others to achieve group goals and objectives.
  • Team player and willing to progress in a rapidly changing environment
